EDWARD YOUNG IN THE ART WORLD OF G. DERZHAVIN AND N. KARAMZIN

This article is devoted to the problems of reception by E. Young’s crea­tivity in the Russian literature of the end of the XVIII th century. As an English poet-preromantic he was very popular in Russia that the various translations prove, among other the most known was executed by the Russian philosopher and mason A. Kutuzov and was published in 1778 in the magazine “Utrenjiy svet”. This publication promoted increase of interest to Jung’s crea­tivity. Reminiscences from its works appear in G. Derzhavin’s creativity (“On the death of the prince Meshchersky”, “God”) and in N. Karamzin’s (“Poetry”, “Letters of the Russian traveler”, “Walk”, “Night”, etc.) howe­ver assimilation of art experience of the English poet take place differently. For Derzhavin on the first place there is a religious and philosophical pathos of Young’s works while for Karamzin bigger value has the lyrical, psychological beginning. The analysis of reminiscences from Young in Derzhavin’s and Karamzin’s creativity allows to draw conclusions on specifics of assimilation by traditions of English literature in Russia at a boundary of the XVIII–XIX centuries.
