MANUAL FOR AUTHORS

REQUIREMENTS TO THE ARTICLES SUBMITTED TO THE ACADEMIC JOURNAL “RUSISTIKA AND KOMPARATIVISTIKA

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS TO THE FORMATTING OF THE ARTICLES (the requirements are based on the GOST R 7.0.7-2021 “Articles in journals and collections.  Formatting requirements”):

  • The length of an article should be from 20 000 to 40 000 characters with spaces, including figures, tables and graphs, and excluding the list of references.
  • The margins: the right, left, top and bottom margins should be ,5 cm.
  • The font should be 14 pt Times New Roman.
  • The spacing should be 1,5 cm.
  • The indent should be 1,5 cm set automatically.
  • Citations in the text must be interconnected with the reference list by putting in the text thereferences in square brackets stating the corresponding information, for example: [Last name ofauthor(s), year of publishing, p.17], [Last name of author(s), year of publishing, p.17-5](please note that only the SURNAME of the author (authors) must be indicated, without initials).
  • Figures, diagrams, tables and graphs must be created in graphic editors supporting vector and bitmap images and numbered in the article depending on the order of their appearance in the text. Since the journal is printed black and white, the use of coloured figures and graphs is not recommended. All imagesin the article must be referred to in the text.  Inscriptions and captions to the illustrative material must be made with 12 pins, given in the language of the text of the article and transcribed in English. 
  • The images in jpeg must be submitted separately. The image resolution must be not less than 300 dpi.
  • In the upper left corner indicate the type of article (review; scientific-theoretical; scientific-practical;analytical; scientific-journalistic; research). 
  • Further, indicate the classification index of the Universal Decimal Classification (UDC – https://teacode.com/online/udc/).
  • The title of the article in Russian (center alignment, font 14 pt, uppercase letters, semi-bold).  There should be no fullstop at the end of the article title.
  • Full name of the authors (left alignment, font size 14, bold, italics).
  • information about the place of work (study) of the author(s), email addresses, ORCID (OpenResearcher and Contributor – https:orcid.org) of the authors should be indicated after the authors ‘names on different lines and associated with the names using superscript numeric designations -1 (left alignment, font size 14, bold, italics). 
  • The titles of the sections must be formatted in the following way:  

– first level: ordinary font (not italiс), semi-bold, first letter upper-cased, the text following below without spacing

– second level: italiс font, first letter upper-cased, the text following below without spacing;  

– third level: ordinary font (not italic), first letter upper-cased, the text following below without spacing.  

  • The list of after-text bibliographic references in Russian must be titled “Литература” (font size 14, page width alignment). The reference list must be formatted according to the Government Standard R 7.05-2008 “Bibliographic reference” and numbered in the order of citation in the text of the article;
  • The transliterated reference list in the Roman alphabet following the reference list in Russian must be titled References and formatted according to the APA style (7th edition) (https://apastyle.apa.org). This section must contain all the references from the reference list in Russian regardless whether it actually contains any international literature. The sequence of authors in the transliterated References section must completely coincide with the Russian-language reference list.  

IMPORTANT:

In the English references section every Russian reference must be provided with the following information: last names of authors transliterated into the Roman alphabet according to the English metadata of the article;(full name of the author and official title of the journal registered in the ISSN (https://portal.issn.org); in English (if available).  Every Russian reference (which does not have a title in English) must be provided with transliterated title of the original (see template). The website WWW.TRANSLIT.RU offers free online service for transliteration from the Cyrillic into the Roman alphabet. The transliteration mode should be LC (The Library of Congress)  

The reference list must include only research works (scientific articles, monographs, books), with at least 50 % of international literature (published during the last 3 years (Scopus) / 5 years (Web of Science), indicating the DOI or URL of the national archive for all sources. The references to other types of sources (archives, legal documents, journalistic articles, reference information, textbooks, dictionaries, dissertation abstracts, etc.) must be included in the text as footnotes (according to the Government Standard Р 7.05-2008 “Bibliographic reference”).

Dear authors! The publication of the manuscripts is carried out once per annum (the same author/team of authors can submit for publishing only one article per year).

STRUCTURE OF A SCIENTIFIC ARTICLE IN THE JOURNAL

The article must comply with the authenticity requirements: at least 75% of authentic text for literature reviews (analytical articles), at least 85% of authentic text for empirical articles.

If there are more than four authors, the authors’ last names are indicated, and the first and the middle names are given in the form of initials. In this case, the full first, middle and last names, as well as the e-mail addresses, ORCIDS of the authors are placed at the end of the article along with additional information about the authors. At the same time one of the authors is indicated on the first page of the article as the corresponding author.

The name of the organization (institution), division, where the author(s) works or studies, is indicated without indicating the organizational and legal form of the legal entity: FGBUN, FGBOU VO, PAO, JSC, etc.;  

The corresponding author is indicated by the sign of an envelope after the author’s full name and email address. Information about the author (s) is repeated in English after the title of the article in English (for manuscripts submitted in Russian).  The first and last name of the author (s) are given in full transliterated form in the Roman alphabet, the middle name is reduced to one letter (in some cases, due to transliteration, up to two letters).

2.      REQUIREMENTS TO ABSTRACTS 

Abstracts in both Russian and English must be informative (do not include general words); substantial (refer to the key points of the article and the results of research); structured (follow the logic that describes the results in the article); concise (200-250 words).  It is permitted to use references to non-text bibliographic sources in the abstract. 

Include in the abstract the following key points:

  • The relevance of the research, background research.
  • The objective of the research.
  • The methods used in the research (in case of empirical article); the methodology, the main approach to the research issue (in case of theoretical article).
  • The research findings described in the article.
  • The conclusions reflecting the scientific and practical value of the research findings presented in the article.  

For example:

– The relevance of the issue studied in this article is substantiated by…  

– Due to this … the article is dedicated to … defining, disclosing, developing, etc 

– The main method used to research this issue was interviewing that allowed to… The research sampling comprised…

The article identifies, discovers, substantiates, proves, etc…  

The data presented in the article enables to…; the technology developed by the authors facilitates…  

3.      KEYWORDS

The keywords represent the semantic kernel of the article. They must reflect the key categories and concepts presented in the article, refer to its title and the research field it belongs to. The number of keywords (phrases) should not be less than 3 and more than 15 words (phrases). They are given, preceded by the title “Keywords:”, and separated from each other by commas.  There is no fullstop after the keywords.  

4. INTRODUCTION

  • Concise description of the research background (at least 5 references to the acclaimed findings on the issue published in Russian and international peer-reviewed journals). 
  • Concise and explicit statement of the relevance of the research.
  • Concise description of the research background. 
  • Description of the existing contradictions and the author’s position.   

For example: 

  • The relevance of the issue (substantiate the relevance of the issue) … 
  • The review of the literature showed (analyze the background literature existing in Russian and international science) …  

– According to the modern trends (describe the modern trends) …  

5.      METHODS and / or METHODOLOGICAL GROUNDS 

Please provide a comprehensive description of the research design (research objective, research tasks).    

Describe the methodology in details (for theoretical article); the methods of the research and the research procedure (for empirical article).    

Define the research sampling. Present the plan and the stages of your experiment. 

For example: 

  • The research objective is… 
  • The methods and procedures used in the research… 
  • The experimental foundations of the research…  
  • The stages of the experiment were… 

6. FINDINGS

The findings must correspond to the objectives and tasks defined in the introduction.  The findings must be articulated in an explicit and an evidence-based way, for example as tables, graphs, diagrams and so on (do not include interpretation of findings).

  Provide only the results you have obtained in your research, do not include the literature review.

7.      DISCUSSION ISSUES 

In this section please provide the following:

  • Review, explanation and interpretation of the research results. 
  • Summary and your opinion on the research results. 
  • Compare the results of your research with the data provided by other authors (Russian and international research published within the last 5 years). 
  • Define the place of the achieved results within the framework of the current scientific knowledge.

8.      CONCLUSION

Please provide the conclusions on the conducted research in a concise and systematized way. Define the trajectories for future research on the issue and provide applied recommendations. Do not include tables, figures or references in this section.

9.      REFERENCE LIST

The reference list must include no less than 25 scientific works (articles, monographs, books) and at least 50% of them must be published in the international peer-reviewed journals (within the last 3 years for Scopus / 5 years for Web of Science). Please provide DOI or URL of the national archive for all references. All authors mentioned in the text should be represented by their works in the reference list. Authors are allowed to include references to their own works (no more than 2).

The articles in Russian must be supplied by two reference lists.  

The first reference list (Литература) in Russian must be formatted according to the Government Standard Р 7.0.5-2008 “Bibliographic reference”.

The second reference list must be transliterated into the Roman alphabet according to the APA style (7th edition) (https://apastyle.apa.org). 

The references to other types of sources (archives, legal documents, journalistic articles, reference information, textbooks, dictionaries, author’s abstracts, etc.) must be included in the article text as the footnotes. 

  In case the references in the Reference list are not formatted according to the requirements (incomplete, inaccurate or incorrect data), your paper might not be accepted for publication.
