HUNTING MYTH IN THE WORKS OF L.N. TOLSTOY

The article deals with the typical details and images embodying some mytho­logy structures, such as Кalidon hunting, Acteon’s transformation and Acteon’s death, the myth of Artemis, Dionysian myth and so on in the works of L.N. Tolstoy. The structures concerning Hinduism mythology are also investigated. They are: Pandu’s hunting, the damnation of the hermit Kindama, Pandu’s death and others. There is a sort of typological similarity between the great Indian epic «Mahabharata» and Tolstoy’s «War and Peace», but the ancient Greek hunting myth is connected with «War and Peace» and «Anna Karenina» for the most part. The hunting myth is also implicated in «The Childhood», «The Cossacks», in «The Kitten», «The Bear-Hunt» («Fables for Children») and other works. Some episodes of Tolstoy’s works are exposed to comparative analysis.
