Annotation

The article examines the origin of the following words found in the Russian chancery language (diplomatic correspondence) of Muscovite Russia of the first half of the 17th century: pomestiti ‘place, locate; lodge, accommodate, put up’, priznati, priznavati ‘recognize, vote’ and retraces their further fate in the Russian and other East Slavonic languages as well as in the Polish language. The author aims at proving that these interslavonic derivatives are interslavonic lexical loanwords – Polonisms – in the Russian language. The following conclusions are made: all the examined words, according to the author, are lexical loanwords – Polonisms – in the Russian language. The written language of the Great Duchy of Lithuania, evidently, appeared to be the mediator, when words priznati and priznavati were being borrowed in the Russian written language of the first quarter of the 17th century.
