Annotation

In the article the phenomena of supersegmental level (stress, intonation, syllabic accent) of the Russian and Lithuanian Languages are compared. In Lithuanian the syllabic accent represents а specific phenomenon as compared to the phonological system of the Russian language. In both the languages the stress shows meaningful similarity in its function, but is different in respect of its acoustic character. The intonation both in the Russian and Lithuanian Languages represents a system of sense-differentiating features (type of intonation construction, place of intonation center, phrasal articulation, pause). In Russian and Lithuanian the intonation constructions, which have similar usage in speech, may coincide in their distinctive phonetic features, but in such cases they preserve their phonetic peculiarities determined by the specific sound system of each language.
