Annotation

Systematic study of intonation presupposes discrimination of the main means of intonation, analysis of their differential functions and defining peculiarities of sounding intonation units. The main means of intonation systems of Lithuanian and Russian is intonation contour or type of intonation construction (1C), which is further considered as an intonation unit. Both languages accordingly have 7 intonation units, i.e. ICL in Lithuanian and К in Russia. In the course of contrastive analysis it was defined, that Lithuanian and Russian ICs, with identical usage in speech, can coincide in differential features (e.g., in direction of tone in the centre, in relation of precentre - centre - postcentre levels, etc.), but these occurrences preserve original sounding of Lithuanian and Russian intonation, conditioned by phonic peculiar!- ties of each of these languages (differences in the structure of the syllable, phonetic nature of stress, appearance of reduction). Phonetic realizations of different types of 1CL are given in diagrams, reflecting peculiarities of individual pronunciation.
