Annotation

The article contains the review of methodologies of the literary criticism of the XIX century. Basing on this background the author investigates the begin- nings of the psychological branch of literary criticism, connected with the work of French scientist E. Hennequin «New Criticism» («Nouvelle Critique»). Principles of aestho-psychology, which had been formulated by E. Hennequin, as the founder of this doctrine, are analyzed. The major principle of the aestho-psychology is the psy- chological approach to studying aesthetic emotions. The other work of Hennequin is devoted to the creativity of Russian writer I.S. Turgenev. It contains judgments about perception of types of heroes, features of plot and style of his works by the French public. It is shown that the aforementioned Hennequin’s work may serve a demon- strative basis of the aestho-psychological method.
