Annotation
The article is devoted to a comparative analysis of the images of Kozma Prutkov and Gottlieb Biedermeyer, who became significant figures of Russian and German literature in the middle of the XIX century. The relevance of the work lies in the need to identify the degree of their typological similarity in order to identify the common and individual features of these literary characters.
The article examines the technique of the image-mask, which brings these characters closer together, as well as the social and cultural spheres of society, since both characters have become a response to the challenges of the time. The works written on behalf of Kozma Prutkov and Gottlieb Biedermeyer are involved in the analysis, the documentary basis of the study were letters by A.M. Zhemchuzhnikov and comments by L. Eichrodt. The analytical emphasis is placed on comparing all points of intersection of images in order to prove that Gottlieb Biedermeyer is not a “German version” of Kozma Prutkov.
