Annotation
The article deals with borrowings in Lithuanian and Russian in terms of their semantics and derivational structure. The data for analysis is collected from the Internet and the mass media. The focus of attention is on both the borrowed words which have already found their place in the lexical systems of Lithuanian and Russian and on the words which do not have numerous occurrences in the language systems. The following borrowings, which passed into lexical systems of Lithuanian and Russian, are discussed in the article: fine, super, turbo, top, sexy, nostalgia, moderator, art, google, egosurfi'ng. The differences and similarities of the same borrowings in Lithuanian and Russian are analyzed and described.
Borrowed words change their meaning, get derivational suffixes and inflections, and serve as the base for other derivatives. As the result the languages are enriched with the new words, which also become homonyms and synonyms with native words.
