Annotation

Conceptualization implies identifying relevant signs of language units which enable one to understand a phenomenon of reality or an abstract notion and store information about it. The article deals with mechanisms and models of conceptualization of colour names denoting the blue colour in English and Russian. The signs constituting the nuclear and the peripheral zone of the described concepts in the two languages are singled out. The nationally conditioned specific features of the said colour names as parts of the linguistic worldview. The author concludes that the semantics of the blue/blue color lexemes can go far beyond the subject-nominative sphere, blue is one of the basic colors, one of the “military”, “political” and “sports” colors. The blue color code in both languages preserves the subject and associative features typical of global and European culture.
