FROM MUZH TO MUZHIK: TRANSFORMATION OF THE ESTATE NAME

Annotation

The article discusses the etymology and ancient Russian history of the words muzh and muzhik. The lexical meaning of the word muzh is analyzed in diachrony, from the etymology to the meaning of the Old Russian period. The symbolic meanings of the word muzh and its cultural significance are taken into account. The structural and semantic analysis of ancient Russian words and contextual analysis are carried out. The word muzhik is defined as a new nomination that arose as a result of the differentiation of the syncretic image of the word muzh.
