Annotation
The article raises the problem of the motivation of the name of the bird kingfisher. The use of Russian names in comparison with the names of this bird in other languages allows us to identify variants of the origin of the names of the kingfisher - alkonost. Particular attention is paid to the origin and specifics of the image of the Alkonost.
