Annotation
Idiostyle of Efim Chestnyakov (1874–1961), an inhabitant of the Shablovo village, Kostroma Province, and a school teacher, painter and writer, includes designations of the technical parameters of a flying ship and an airplane presented in literary works. The author designed his literary image of an aeronautic vehicle, based on the data of encyclopedias, scientific articles and newspaper editorials. He set the task to educate the peasants from the taiga villages, who were illiterate and unable to travel to large cities. Chestnyakov created “The Saga of Staphiy — Black Grouse King” (this is a conventional name) with the main character, who was the creator of a flying ship that can fold like an umbrella. The plot is based on the travel of Stafiy on his ship, during which technical details are described, as well as the perception of this curiosity by the peasants. “The Tale of the Winged People” shows that only pious thoughts allow a person to create artifi cial wings and take to the air. In the poem “Titko” of the Soviet era, the title character is forced to build an airplane house in order to fly away from the “builders” of a new life with his family and pets, but he still cannot escape from them
