Annotation
The article deals with the biographical sources and artistic resources of the plots with a duel motif in the works of Ivan Turgenev. Historical parallels and comments based on the correspondence of writers and memoirs are given. In the center of the analysis is the novel “Fathers and Children”, from which parallels with the early and late works of the writer are drawn. Conclusions are drawn about the artistic regularities in the evolution of the plot involving a duel in Turgenev’s entire creative work and about some of his psychological features in the perception of this noble ritual.
