Annotation

The article reconstructs the history of writing the Ode to M. Muravjov-Vilneskij. The reconstruction is based on periodicals, memoirs, and archive materials of that time. N. Nekrasov did read panegyric poems to M. Muravjov. However, he did not publish them and regretted about it very much. The posthumous publication of the Ode in "Russian Archive” (1885) related the name of N. Nekrasov to the Ode to M. Muravjov for a long time. The article speaks not only about the authorship of the Ode, but also presents critical responses from Lithuania concerning N. Nekrasov. Moreover, the article sheds light on I. Nikotin’s personality, his commitment to M. Muravjov and I. Nikotin’s constant desire to vindicate M. Muravjov’s cruelties and repressions against the participants of the rebellion of 1863. I. Nikotin's panegyric text totally resembles Russian empire moral in terms of lexis, panegyric and laudatory intonation, and other issues related to the repression of the rebellion of 1863.
