Annotation

The present paper deals with the problem of distinguishing and defining slang among other types of sub-standard lexis, such as jargonisms, professionalisms, vulgarisms and taboo words. Observations and experiments concerning Russian and Lithuanian slang are based on sociolinguistic, psychological, pragmatic, structural and stylistic parametres. For theoretical purposes the paper also touches upon some typological contrastive features of Lithuanian and English slang.
