Annotation

The object of comparative analysis is diachronic interrelations in the history of Eng- lish drama. The author of the article shows that during Sheridan’s epoch Restoration comedy was perceived as in many relations alien cultural phenomenon. Comparison of J. Vanbrugh’s piece «The Relapse» and Sheridan’s «A Trip to Scarborough» helps to re- veal the main genre differences between the comedies of the end of the XVII and the last third of the XVIII century.
