Annotation

Proper names are a group of language signs with specific features of semantics and pragmatics which define their way of development and structure. The totality of proper names is a set of formations of different epochs. Different onomastics series are crossing quite often. It becomes the reason why identical stems are used as basic words in anthroponymy, toponymy, hydronymy and ethnonymy in different languages of a certain region. The article presents analysis of two onomastics series: a) units with the component Gal-, b) proper names with the base Taut- (< *teutā / *toutā). The existence of identical proper names in different languages is an indicator of archaism of language signs in these series. The corresponding facts should be perceived as a product of the phenomenon designated by the term of the language-union. This refers to the possibility of the existence of an old European onomastics union as a special community.
