Annotation

The predicative words нет and нельзя are described in the article as means of expressing negation. The author investigates the meaning and functioning of these words in monologue and dialogue. The comparison with their Lithuanian equiva- lents is used to unveil specific character of negation expressed by means of the pre- dicative words and to determine the peculiarity of their semantics and functioning in the Russian language. The emotional and flat character of the negation expressed by these predicative words in Russian dialogue is emphasized.
