Annotation
Vilnius and especially Uzhupis, its district of bohemians, are the main
places where the action of Jurgis Kunchinas’ novel ‘Tula’ develops. The narrator describes the plan of the district with enormous accuracy and, thus,
provides it with a specific personality. The district plays an individual role of
a character which lives its own life. Simultaneously, the city gains carnality
and some kind of human physiology – ‘innards and cesspit of real Uzhupis
tear apart’.
