Annotation
The numerous A.I. Gertsen’s (Herzen’s) statements on the oeuvre
of N.V. Gogol are adduced and commented in the article. The particular attention
is given to the resemblance and sometimes to the coincidence of Herzen’s judgments with the judgments of his contemporaries, as well as with the thoughts
of the author of “Revizor”, “Dead Souls” about his own works. The works, letters and diaries of Herzen contains shrewd observations, concrete conclusions
about the place and significance of Gogol in the history of Russian literature.
