Annotation

The article deals with the analysis of a politically committed play about the events of the 1863-1864 Polish and Lithuanian Rebellion. The historical and literary context of the play is taken into account in this article. This context is constituted by the traditions of the European Enlightenment comedy and of the Russian satirical comedy of the XVIII–XIX-th centuries (“Brigadir” and “Nedorosl’” by D.I. Fonvizin, “Revizor” by N.V. Gogol’).
