Annotation

The article examines the structure of linguistic and background knowledge represented by the words “kuvshinka” and “lotus” in the Russian and Chinese worldview. It is argued that in the naive picture of the world, these nominations are prototypical for all types of aquatic flowers. Based on the analysis of different layers of concepts, the functioning of which was studied on the material of texts of prose and poetic discourses, traditional symbolism, as well as by using the results of an associative experiment and analysis of internal form, it is concluded that the concepts have a substantially similar structure, but the value of the constituents is different: the nuclear symbolic and philosophical component of the Chinese concept allows it to be attributed to philosophical, and the synesthetic-perceptual core of the Russian concept shows its imaginative character. The results of the study confirm the anthropocentrism and biologism of language as a sign system.
