Annotation
The article demonstrates the impact of Russian journalists of the beginning of the 20th century on the life and works of Herman Bang, a very popular Danish author of that time. The “evolution” of articles in his works is revealed from small and neutral notes to enthusiastic large reviews. Some tendencies in changing the critics’ opinion about Herman Bangs’ works are disclosed: we can trace critics’ aims to be independent from European colleagues, genetic connections of Bang’s works with Russian classic literature, etc. The history of the writer’s nickname Danish Chekhov in Russian periodicals is described. The article also demonstrates the interpretation of Herman Bang’s biography as shown in Russian journals of 1900-1910, and the analysis of notes about his visit in Moscow in 1911. The article also contains necrologies to the sudden death of the writer at the beginning of 1912, from which the gradual “demonisation” of Herman Bang’s image started, who had, as many people believed, felt his death.
